8/11 This Week's ELA


Spelling and Vocabulary Lists/Week 2          There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom (Chapters 1-10)

Spelling words:
Monday: Copy spelling words into your agenda in ABC order (due Tuesday).
Tuesday-Wednesday: Complete ONE of the following choices (due Thursday).
A.            Five times each: Write each word five times each (three times print, two times cursive).  Remember to write your words down your paper in columns, not across in rows (like we did in class).
B.            ZYX order: Write your words in reverse alphabetical order.  Z would be first, and A would be last!  (1. zany …        20. apple)
C.            Backwards spelling: Write your spelling words correctly and then write them backwards!  (spelling à gnilleps)
Study each night for your test on Friday!  Your spelling test will have 25 words: the twenty on this list plus five random words from last week.  Be sure to study!

IRA (Independent Reading Activity) Weekly Task Week 2 (Due Friday!):
Be sure to read at least 20 minutes each night in your independent reading book!
Week 2: Point of View
         From which point of view is your independent reading book written?  Is it first person or third person?  List at least five clues from the text that led to your conclusion.  Be sure to include your book title.


Drops in the Bucket (DITB) #2 is also due Friday.

Monday: Match the vocabulary words below with the correct definition on the right.  Write the letter of the definition on the line next to the vocabulary word. Think about how the words have been used in the novel being read in class. You may use a dictionary. Due Tuesday.
Tuesday-Wednesday (DUE THURSDAY): Illustrate each vocabulary word with a simple drawing that will help you remember the definition. Do this on notebook paper, after your heading.  Your work should be numbered, have the vocabulary word written, then followed by the illustration.
