Spelling:
Monday: Write your words in ABC order in your agenda (due Tuesday).
Tuesday: Make a spelling chain, “text” your spelling words, or color code them and provide a key (due Thursday).
*IF you made below an 85 on last week's test, you must write this week's words 5x each (3x print/2x cursive). Turn in on Friday.
Tuesday through Thursday, please study your words nightly for your test on Friday.

Week 9: Cause/Effect Relationships – Use notebook paper with your correct heading.

Things happen in stories for a reason, and one thing leads to another. A cause is why something happens. An effect is what happens. Find at least THREE different cause and effect relationships (or events) in your AR book. Describe each event in a complete sentence in your own words. Remember the following key words and phrases that you can use: because, caused, since, so, and as a result.

Vocabulary
Monday: Write the correct word from the word bank for the given definition.
Tuesday: Vocabulary draw, sentences, or crossword puzzle with clues (due Thursday).
Wednesday: IF you made below 85 on last week’s test, write each vocabulary word in a fabulous 5th grade sentence (use at LEAST 10 words)– underline the vocabulary word (due Thursday).
Tuesday – Thursday: Study vocabulary words and definitions for the test on Friday!

Can you believe it's the last day of September?  This Friday marks the end of our first nine weeks, so all goals need to be met by then.  I am really proud of our class's overall behavior and how much most of them are reading.

Fall pictures came in and were sent home today.  Please return the package or $$ as soon as possible.

*There is a 5:00 parent meeting this evening in the "band room" downstairs to discuss Title I.

For HM tonight:
Finish math worksheet.  (Not everyone has the same one, based on individual needs, so there is no page # here.)
Finish AM corrections if you had them to make.

Finish vocabulary definition match.
Write spelling in ABC order.

*Science WB p. 10-15 will be due on Wednesday.  SPICE kids will probably not get to work on this in class tomorrow, but the "hot tamales" will have time in class to work on theirs tomorrow.

We enjoyed our field trip to YHC and the play "Honk, Jr.!"  The students were very well behaved and seemed to enjoy the musical.

Finish science WB p. 4-8 if not finished in class.

I am so sorry that they did not go home as planned yesterday.  Please sign the form, because without it you child cannot go with us to see the play "Honk, Jr." at Theater Young Harris.  We cannot accept handwritten notes nor phone calls.

For HW tonight, finish spelling & vocabulary HW and the CPA outline.

Don't forget that the IRA (7 sentence types) is due Friday and that the non-fiction genre report is due by Monday.

It has been a crazy busy week! I apologize for not keeping the blog updated this week.  The kids may have told you that I had to be out yesterday to attend a funeral.  Today, we watched the movie "Akeelah and the Bee" and watch the last 10 minutes or so on Monday.  (Bus riders got to see the ending, but everyone else missed the grande finale!)

Our social studies Civil War & Reconstruction test will be Tuesday.  We will review on class Monday, and students will have notes to study.

Many students are well on their to meeting their 6 book goal, but a few need to read more.  Please read this weekend!

*This month's genre is informational non-fiction.  (We will read biography/autobiography later this year.)  Each student received a genre report for this month's "project."  The top part is to be completed before reading the book.  These can be turned in early.

Today has been a "Monday" on Tuesday!  Please check the spelling and vocabulary assignments carefully because we have different due dates this week due to the holiday.  I hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Sp in ABC order in agenda; spelling "chain" due Friday.
Write the spelling word that matches the vocabulary word definition.  (Ten of our 20 spelling words are our vocabulary words.)  The Latin root ped means "foot" and the root man (or manu) means "hand."

This week's IRA is "interesting words" (5 nouns, 5 verbs, 5 adjectives, and 5 adverbs), due Friday.
