As part of our "boot camp," students can earn points for their service branch/team (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) by completing all homework. They can earn a point for completing an AM assignment and earning 80% or better on it. Encourage your cadet to work hard!
Coach math p. 44-45 (This is similar to the Domain 2 test on Wed.)
Study for civics test Wed. (*Know the amendments!)
Spelling in ABC order w/a twist: Students need to alphabetize the words with suffix -able (1-15 in agenda) and then alphabetize the words with suffix -ible (16-20). We went over this extensively in class. Separating the suffix groups should help them remember the 5 words that don't end in -able.

For homework, students need to finish their WOWs. Anyone who has not already read and quizzed on 3 books should read. We also have students who need to work hard to catch up in AM. Thanks for your help!

Today's Poem: Sick by Shel Silverstein
"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more- that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue-
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke-
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hang nail, and my heart is- what?
What's that you say?
You say today is... Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"
CRCT "Boot Camp"
To help prepare for the upcoming CRCT, our class is completing "boot camp" requirements. Each student has been assigned to one of the five branches of our military and will be working as a team to earn points to see which branch is truly the best. In addition to earning points, teams can lose them too! There will be some (fun) physical challenges to help shape up our bodies along with our minds.
Each Friday of April will be "pride" days: wear your camouflage to help your team! (No weapons, please!)

Final Genre Project: Poetry
April is National Poetry
Month! To celebrate, you need to
read at least five different poems.
(They may be by the same author but they do not have to be.) Jack Prelutsky and Shel Silverstein are
two fabulous poets for children, and they both have websites that you might
enjoy. (Please do NOT use Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends because we will use it in class.)
For your project, on your own
paper, you must write the title and author of each of the five poems you
read. Write a brief summary of
each of them.
Next, choose ONE poem to copy
accurately and illustrate on a separate sheet of (plain) paper. Make sure that your illustrations
“match” the poem. Include your
name, the author’s name, and the title of the poem. (This poem will be displayed in the classroom or hallway.)
Finally, choose ONE poem to read
aloud to the class. Be sure to
practice reading it aloud fluently and with expression. You will need to have one copy for you
to read from and another copy to turn in before you read aloud.
Please turn in all pieces of this
project together (no later than 5/7).
You may certainly present and turn in your work early! (*THIS PROJECT COUNTS AS TWO READING TEST GRADES!)
BONUS: Research different
styles/types of poetry. Write your
own original poem.
